2023 End of Year Recap & Highlights
Another year is coming to an end, and I am very excited to announce we had another great year for Uechi International.
We as an Association are growing and building stronger every day under the leadership and guidance of our Chairman Robert J. Campbell.
Please let me highlight some of our Association’s accomplishments this year 2023.
New Dojos and Senior Members: We have added seven new dojos from the USA, Canada, and England to our Association: John Carria, Tony Williams, Glenn Dickenson, Douglas Bleecker, Andrew Summerly, Troy Varner, and Ben Colclough.
In addition, we added six new senior members: Lisa DiOrio, Mike Hurney, Tracy Capone, Marie Duda, John Schulman, and Danny Gadowski.
We will be adding more dojos and senior members as time passes.
Special thanks to the great work by 6th dan Lisa DiOrio as we have a brand-new website. Lisa worked very hard to redesign the new site and get it up and operational in a short period of time.
She did a fantastic job and on behalf of Bob Campbell and me (Jay) we wish to thank Lisa very much for all her hard work. We are grateful to her.
Special thanks for the great work by 5th dan Kevin Linehan the Editor of our Uechi International newsletter, along with the great help from 6th dan Tracy Capone.
Kevin and Tracy worked together to design the entire newsletter. Tracy also did the Graphic Design of the letter. They both did a fantastic job.
On behalf of Bob Campbell and me (Jay) we wish to thank Kevin and Tracy very much for all their hard work. We are grateful to them.
Note – If you are interested in contributing to the newsletter, please contact either me or Kevin Linehan.
Over the course of the year, we held ten seminars with various instructors in two different locations – Tim Ford’s dojo in Cambridge, MA, and Steve DiOrio’s dojo in Billerica MA.
Each seminar was very well attended, and everyone enjoyed themselves. After each seminar many of us went out for lunch and had a great social time.
The seminars varied in topics; they were not all the typical Uechi Ryu seminars. We feel the participants get all the typical Uechi Ryu training back at their dojos and we want to offer seminars that provide a different twist. We are already planning and scheduling 10 more seminars for 2024.
We want to recognize 6th dan Master Sensei Fred DeCubellis on his multiple tournament wins this year.
Due to Fred’s multiple wins he was the winner of the KRANE Triple Crown in the Men’s 50-59 year old Weapons Divisions.
On behalf of Bob Campbell and me (Jay) we wish to congratulate Fred on this great accomplishment.
This year we held our annual Banquet, with our guest of honor Bob Campbell. Bob flew in from Hong Kong. We had a total of 157 people attend.
The banquet was a chance to see old friends and make new friends. We presented many awards, and it was a fun night overall. We expect it to be bigger and better every year.
Special Awards presented at the Banquet:
Ray Geraneo was selected for the Hall of Fame – World Soke Council
Tim Ford was selected for the Hall of Fame – World Soke Council
Tim Ford was inducted into the Uechi International Hall of Fame
