Began study of Uechi ryu in 1971 under George Mattson & Bob Campbell at Hancock St. Dojo Boston, MA
1976 – Shodan Test, Providence, R.I.
1988 – Nidan Test, San Diego, CA
1994 – Sandan Test, Summer Camp, MA
2002 – Yondan Test, GEM Seminar, Cortez, CO
2015 – Godan Test, GEM Seminar, NM, and Shihan award for 32 years of teaching & 44 years a student
2018 - Rokudan Test and review by all senior board members of Uechi International

First two years of training were mostly with George Mattson.
Next three years mostly with Bob Campbell and other top students.
1974 training seminar with Takimiagi, Yanamini, Nakumatsu, and Shinjo at the Mattson Academy.
1975-1976 trained as a teacher at the Mattson Academy & taught the Sunday all-rank class for one year.
1976 promoted to Shodan in Providence, R.I.
Two years in Central America of volunteer work, self- training, and working with other styles.
1983 given permission to teach in Albuquerque, NM by George Mattson.
1984 summer camp, Sanchin corrected by Kanei Uechi, and Seisan corrected by Ryuko Tomoyose.
1986 a few private lessons with George Mattson at Brockton Dojo.
1988 promoted to Nidan in San Diego, CA.
1994 promoted to Sandan, at George Mattson’s summer camp.
1999 visit and work out with Jerry Mc Donald, San Diego, CA.
2000 training with George Mattson and others at the Hut in Newton, MA.
2002 promoted to Yondan by George Mattson and test board in Colorado.
2006 presenter at George Mattson’s summer camp, MA.
2007 seminar in Albuquerque, NM with Jerry Mc Donald.
2012 work out visit with Jerry Mc Donald and Paul Hayduk in San Diego, CA.
2015 Albuquerque seminar with George Mattson. promoted to Godan, and Shihan award.
2018 became a member of Uechi International after complete review of the entire system.
Steve has been actively teaching in Albuquerque, NM since 1983.
Credited in “The Black Belt Test Guide” by George Mattson in 1988, and the “Uechi Ryu Handbook” by Allen Moulton in 1995.
