The Uechi-Ryū International Karate Association, also known as "Uechi International" was created under the direct authority of our Chairman, Master Sensei Robert J. Campbell. It was started when Campbell Sensei was living and working in Asia in 1980. Then in 1989 Campbell Sensei made the decision to open membership in his association outside of Asia. The very first dojo to join Uechi Hong Kong, as it was originally named back then, was Sensei Jay Salhanick's dojo, the Traditional Uechi-Ryū Karate Institute operated by Sensei Jay Salhanick, Campbell's longtime student. At that time in 1989, Salhanick Sensei was teaching and operating a dojo in Boston and Medford Massachusetts, along with running the Uechi-Ryū Karate program at the University of Massachusetts - Boston (1991 - 2005).
As time passed, Uechi International has welcomed many new members. Over the past many years, Uechi international has grown into one of the top tier Uechi associations in the world. Master Sensei Robert J. Campbell is to this day Chairman of the association, along with Salhanick Sensei as Vice Chairman and President.
